Background

From 1999 to 2012, UCAD was at the forefront of providing excellent workshops and performance development for over 10 years serving artists and developing talent in extra-curricular capacities. In 2012, the decision was made to create an Academic Department in Performing Arts thereby changing the focus of UCAD from a Centre to an integral part of the Academic Community within the University. The focus for 2012-2016 is on creating a sustainable Arts Department allowing for continued growth and development and a National Framework for Arts Education. Its purpose is also to add value to the University through international recognition and collaborative Arts Projects and Education Exchanges designed to raise the profile of Traditional Music and Rwanda Culture. The Academic Courses have been written and submitted to the concerned organs for consideration and validation and are expected to begin in 2015-2016 academic year.
